So here it is, my first post.
I happened to be reading about false lashes the other day when I stumbled upon an article about paper lashes. These ones in particular were made by a company called PaperSelf and the images speak for themselves. They're beautiful and very detailed. You can purchase them off of Sephora for $17-$19 per set. I don't usually wear false lashes but out of curiosity I wanted to see if I could make some.
I'm a very forgetful person so I always try to jot my ideas into my phone when they come into fruition or I will definitely forget what they were. I had a couple of themes I wanted to do but I finally settled on an idea (character, rather). Mega Man. I have absolutely no clue why I thought of Mega Man at 2 AM but into the notes it went.
I didn't take pictures of my process but will explain them below:
- Took a picture of my eyes, straight-on
- Pulled a picture of it into Adobe Illustrator and made them approximately life-size
- Found a picture of Mega Man I wanted to use
- Dropped it into illustrator, made it black and white (added some more black for structural purposes)
- Added a thicker black curve as a base to put on my eyelid
- Printed out 4 copies (I made extras in case I messed up -- and I did) on normal printer paper
- Cut out all the white with an X-Acto Knife
- Placed the cut-outs on wax paper then painted a couple light layers of black acrylic paint on front and back (to keep the cut-outs from sticking on to the wax paper, I kept the brushstrokes light and kept moving it around with the brush)
- After it dried, I put on some eyelash glue (I used Duo brand from the drugstore), did my makeup and stuck them on.
- I used eyelash glue to stick the jewels (Mega Man's "bullets") on
That was my process and it probably could have been much simpler...but hey, trial and error.
I don't usually wear blue eyeshadow but I think this called for the occasion. Colors on are from the MUFE flash color case, Victoria's Secret Dash Me a Line (black velvet), MUFE Aqua Eyes (gold) and Maybelline Lash Stiletto mascara.
